The Human Factor

Hello my lovelies – I’ve missed you all. It’s been a busy, busy past few days, so unfortunately my morning inspiration posts had to be put on hold. But, I’m back. And today, I want to share a very important reminder that’s been hitting me hard personally these past few days…

On Sunday night, people all around the globe were watching the 85th Annual Academy Awards. And whether you’re a fan of the fashion, the actual awards, or just like to watch the celebrities walk the red carpet…one of the most talked about moment’s from that night was Jennifer Lawrence’s fall. Just Google her name and the image of her tripping up the stairs on her way to accept her Oscar pops up several times.

I don’t normally follow the “celebrity culture,” but there’s something to be said here. Jennifer Lawrence, just like the rest of us, is human. These individuals that people put up on a pedestal expecting perfection, are far from it. And I don’t wish tripping up the stairs on anyone – believe me, I’ve done it plenty of times…it’s not fun – but when things like this happen, it’s a reminder that we’re all human.

And this isn’t just about celebrities or those in the public eye. For me there are people I admire and respect in my local business field as well as individuals in my personal life. And they deserve that admiration and respect because they’ve, quite frankly, worked their butts off and earned it (and Jennifer Lawrence, I think, deserves her Oscar).

However, at times I can view these people in my life as “untouchable” – an ideal of perfection that I’m trying to emulate. So much so, that sometimes I miss the fact that they’re just human beings. With their own struggles, their own quirks, their own challenges that they deal with day in and day out. It’s the common denominator – the human factor – that’s inspirational. We have so much more in common with that one little factor than with all our differences combined. We’re all just trying to figure out this thing called life.

Knowing this, and taking time to look at others from the “human perspective” is really important. I encourage you to take the time to really learn about the human being behind that office cubicle, on the street corner, sitting at the family dinner table, or even you. We’re all just human beings…
